Fake plays and artificial streaming fraud

Our streaming partners, including Spotify and Apple, have strict guidelines to prevent and combat stream manipulation. These platforms actively monitor for suspicious activity and develop tools to detect fraudulent streams. If they discover artificial streaming, they notify distributors like LabelGrid with detailed reports identifying the flagged content.

Important Note:

  • Non-Violating Artists Are Protected: LabelGrid is committed to ensuring that artificial streaming penalties do not impact the accounts, royalties, or content of artists who are not associated with the flagged activity.

  • Transparency About Charges: If Spotify detects artificial streams, it may issue penalties to LabelGrid, the distributor. LabelGrid reviews such cases internally and informs the impacted content owners. While Spotify does not directly charge artists, LabelGrid may bill the associated customer for the applicable amounts associated with the claim.

Protecting Your Interests:
Buying fake plays or attempts to manipulate streams are strictly prohibited. Violations detected via LabelGrid’s monitoring systems or through platforms like Spotify may lead to account suspension, content removal, and withheld royalties for individuals involved. We strongly encourage all artists to follow Spotify’s Artificial Streaming Education Guidelines, which are shared as part of our onboarding process.

Dispute Process:

If streaming fraud is reported, you have the right to formally dispute the case within 7 days by contacting legal@labelgrid.com. Our team will review all submissions and aim to resolve disputes within seven business days, although some cases may require longer to assess based on complexity.
