Editing a track
Editing a track allows you to make any necessary updates or corrections, ensuring that all information, such as titles, artist credits, and metadata, is accurate. This is required to maintain the quality and professionalism of your release, helping it perform better across digital platforms.
Step 1: Access the Track
Navigate to Catalogue > Tracks in your LabelGrid dashboard.
Locate the track you want to edit and open the Actions column menu.
Select Edit.
Step 2: Editing Track Details
Editing Music:
Upload your music in a .wav format, preferably.
Choose if the track is Original, a Cover Song, or within the Public Domain.
Audio requirements: 44.1kHz WAV 16bit Stereo. We can also accept 48kHz 24bit, but this is experimental. If you do decide to upload a higher-quality format, you should double-check your release afterward to make sure all files were properly processed.
Cover songs:
To digitally distribute a cover song, you typically need to obtain a mechanical license granting you the right to distribute the composition (not the original recording) and pay royalties to the copyright owner.
Services like Easysong can help secure this license. However, if you're only distributing the cover on streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube, a mechanical license is not always required because these platforms already cover licenses and royalties for streaming. A license is only needed for downloads, physical sales, or other non-streaming uses. If you’re unsure, obtain a license.
If you have a license:
Choose if you acquired the license from the Licensing Agency or the Publisher.
Complete the license ID
Complete the provider name.
Upload the license
Dolby:
LabelGrid fully supports the upload of Dolby Atmos masters. If you have a Dolby Atmos version of your audio, please upload it under the "Dolby" tab. However, not all digital service providers (DSPs) currently support Dolby Atmos. For this reason, you must also upload a standard WAV file to ensure compatibility across all platforms.
ISRC: LabelGrid will automatically generate an ISRC for your track. However, if you already have an existing ISRC, you can manually input it during the upload process.
Dolby Atmos WAV: For Dolby Atmos audio files, upload the corresponding WAV file in the designated "Dolby" section. This must be a Dolby/Spatial mix.

Editing Track Details:
Under the "Title" tab, ensure you complete all the required fields:
Mix Version: Specify the version of the track (e.g., Radio Edit, Extended Mix, Acoustic Version, etc.)
Title Language: Indicate the primary language of the track's title.
Track Title: Enter the exact name of the track.
Remix Title: If the track is a remix, enter the remix title (e.g., "Artist Name Remix" or "Version").
Additionally, if the track has titles in other languages, you can include them in the appropriate fields.
Â
Â
Artists:
To properly credit the people involved and assign them to your track, follow these steps:
Primary Artists: Under the designated field, input the names of the primary artists responsible for the main performance or creation of the track. These are the individuals or groups credited as the main act.
Featured Artists: If your track includes featured artists (e.g., guest vocalists or musicians appearing alongside the primary artist), list their names in the "Featured Artists" field.
Remixers: If the track is a remix, add the remixer’s name in the appropriate field. The remixer will be credited accordingly as a contributor to the release.
Ensure all artist roles are accurately specified to provide correct credit and visibility on digital platforms.
Some DSPs will display artists in a different order than you set up. However, most will honor your requirements.
Metadata:
Under the "General" tab, ensure all the following metadata fields are populated:
Primary Genre: Select the main genre of the track (e.g., Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop).
Secondary Genre: If applicable, choose a secondary genre that best categorizes the track.
Copyright P Line: Enter the P (Phonogram) copyright notice, typically the year of release and the name of the rights holder (e.g., 2024 [Label Name] or [Artist Name]).
Copyright C Line: Enter the C (Copyright) notice, which applies to the artwork and written material (e.g., 2024 [Label Name or Content Owner]).
ISRC Code: Provide the track's ISRC code. This tracks global identification. If you don’t have an ISRC, LabelGrid will generate one automatically.
Mark as Explicit Content: Indicate whether the track contains explicit content (choose "Yes" or "No").
Additionally, you can designate certain tracks as "Album Only." This applies to tracks that are only available for purchase if the user buys the full album rather than as standalone singles.
Â
Adding Lyrics:
Under the "Lyrics" tab, add your lyrics along with the language they are in.
Language: Specify the language in which the lyrics are written to ensure proper categorization and display.
Lyrics: Enter the full text of the track's lyrics in the provided field.
Make sure the lyrics are accurate and properly formatted for clarity.
Splits and Contributions:
Under the "Splits" tab, ensure you properly allocate the percentages for the track's contributors across the following categories:
Master Splits: Distribute the ownership percentages for the master recording among the contributors (e.g., artists, producers, labels). The total must always equal 100%.
Publishing Splits: Allocate the royalty percentages for the track’s composition rights among the songwriters, composers, and other relevant contributors. The total must also equal 100%.
Contributors: List all key contributors to the track, such as the artists, producers, and musicians involved in creating the recording and composition.
Publishers: If applicable, list the publishing companies responsible for administering the rights to the composition.
Copyright Owners: Specify the entities or individuals that hold the copyright for the master recording and the composition (this can include artists, labels, or publishers).
Note: Completing these splits is mandatory for distributing your release. Both master and publishing splits must be fully defined to ensure proper royalty payments for all contributors.

Once all details are entered, press "Finish."
LabelGrid will then add your tracks to the release.
